Crowns and Bridges

A woman is getting her teeth examined by a dentist.
Crowns and bridges enable our patients to quickly protect and preserve teeth or replace teeth that are missing. While these tasks are routine dental services, there is considerable skill involved in giving a patient a perfect crown or bridge.

A crown, also called a “cap,” is a covering for an entire tooth. It is made from metal or porcelain, with most people preferring porcelain because a porcelain crown will closely resemble a natural tooth.

A crown is used when a tooth has been damaged by decay or impact. A cracked or fractured tooth can be protected. A tooth that’s received a root canal can be strengthened. Crowns may also be used cosmetically, to cover an unattractive tooth.
Bridges are made from two crowns with a replacement tooth or two in the middle. The crowns will be placed over the teeth on either side of a gap in a person’s smile with the replacement teeth filling the gap. In a short time, a patient can have a complete smile again.

Art is involved in shaping and coloring these restorations so they exactly match the person’s natural teeth and enhance their appearance. When multiple visible teeth will be crowned, this is particularly important. We apply our best skills and artistic sense to every crown and bridge we provide for our patients.
